Purpose:
to evaluate the role of combined intravitreal TPA and avastin on retinal vascular diseases.
Methods:
In this prospective, interventional case series, 24 eyes were studied. Three eyes with VMT received a single intravitreal injection of 50 μg TPA. Two eyes with VMT received 100 μg TPA. Combined intravitreal injections of 50 μg TPA and 1.25mg Avastin were performed in 12 eyes with CSME, 5 eyes with diabetic vitreous hemorrhage, one eye with fresh CRVO and one eye with CNV.
Results:
The incidence of PVD over the 1-month follow-up period was 0% (0 of 5), 50% (6 of 12), 60% (3 of 5), 100% (1 of 1) and 100% (1 of 1) for VMT, CSME, VH, CRVO and CNV patients, respectively. Considering all patients, compared to the baseline, one month after injections, mean visual acuity improved and CMT decreased significantly (P=0.004,P=0.005).
Conclusion:
Intravitreal injection of 50 or 100 μg TPA was not successful to induce complete PVD in patients with vitreomacular traction syndrome. Intravitreal injection of combined TPA and avastin induced PVD in eyes with CSME and diabetic vitreous hemorrhage.
