Purpose:
to investigate the CDR rate and its relation to BMI and BP in Mashhad population.
Methods:
This is a cross sectional study with stratified cluster sampling technique on Mashhad habitants in different parts. To gather data, we have used interview (filling questionnaires) and examinations. Patients' examinations are classified as either general or ophthalmic. General examinations included BP (systolic and diastolic) and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements done by a nurse; while ophthalmic examinations including slit-lamp examinations and measurements of cup-disk ratio (CDR) were done by an ophthalmology resident.
Results:
The number of participants in this study was 4837 persons with the mean age of 31.6 years. The CDR mean for both eyes were estimated 0.26. In this study, it is shown that there is a significant difference in CDR mean for both eyes between males and females. Also there is a significant direct relationship between age and CDR. Moreover the data showed that there is a significant direct linear relation between CDR and AL and BMI, while there is none any between CDR and BP (systolic and diastolic).
Conclusion:
Although the outcomes of this study were similar to most studies in this field, numerous studies have been published with different results
