Purpose:
|
To evaluate the prevalence of eye deviations in mashhad population.
|

Methods:
|
In a cross-sectional study with random cluster sampling ,5054 participants were selected from Mashhad population.Cycloplegic and non-cycloplegic refraction was performed.Uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) were recorded for each patient.Cover and uncover tests were performed for investigating of strabismus

Results:
|
:Mean age of 5054 participants was 35 years old.This study yielded 110 cases of strabismus.Prevalence of strabismus was 2.17%.The prevalence of exotropia was 1.46% and that of esotropia was 0.51% and prevalence of vertical eye deviations was 0.19%.The exotropia/esotropia ratio was 2.84.The prevalence of the other visual morbidities among patients with strabismus were as follows:Amblyopia 4.5 %,Anisometropia 20.9% and Refractive errors 60%.

Conclusion:

The prevalence of strabismus in this study was in the midrange and similar to European-based and American-based studies
