Purpose:
The object of this study was to compare the refractive results and corneal higher-order aberrations changes in Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) between Static Cyclotorsion Contol (SCC) and corneal wavefront guided (CWG) method.
Methods:
myopic-astigmatic patients with at least 1.00D of astigmatism underwent PRK by SCHWIND machine, with either SCC or CWG method. Changes in visual acuity, refractive error, ORBSCAN and corneal aberrometry in a 6-month follow up were investigated and compared between two groups.
Results:
BCVA (best corrected visual acuity) preoperatively and UCVA (uncorrected visual acuity) postoperatively was 10/10 for all the eyes. Mean age was 29.96 years. Mean myopia was -4.47 diopters (D) ±1.85 (SD) preoperatively and 0.26±0.56 (D) postoperatively. CWG group showed more significant changes in corneal aberrations. Significant difference between two methods was found in quatrefoil (p=0.036) and 6th order quatrefoil (p=0.048) changes in 4mm pupil. Correlation between SCC and CWG was r=0.93 and r=0.708 respectively.
Conclusion:
Despite the more increase of HOAs in CWG group; there were not considerable differences detected between 2 groups after PRK. SCC method with less corneal thickness reduction and less corneal HOAs changes has a more straight effect on correcting the refractive error.
