Purpose:
|
Evaluation of possible relationship between hypothyroidism and glaucoma which are common diseases in Iranian community
|

Methods:
|
IOP were measured by applanation tonometer in 100 hypothyroid patients 6 months after confirmation of their diagnosis by endocrinologist and also in 100 normal individual .Glaucoma was confirmed by perimetry and OCT of optic disc.data were analyzed by spss18.
|

Results:
|
Increased IOP was seen in 15 percent of patients with hypothyroid in comparison with 4 percent in euthyroid individuals.No significant relation with hypertension and also duration of disease.There was significant relation between severity of thyroid disease and increased IOP
|
|
Conclusion:
|
Hypothyroidism is a common disease and need high attention on IOP and glaucoma in these patients to prevent significant visual disturbances
|
