Purpose:
The patient is 36 years-old-male with history of Trauma to left eye while watching a worker using a grinding stone 2 years ago with Complaining of gradual visual impairment was referred to ophthalmology clinic.
Methods:
Based on the history, orbital CT scan without contrast and ocular sonography was done. An intraocular foreign body (IOFB) was found in his left eye, also electeroretiongarm (ERG) was done
Results:
and ocular siderosis was diagnosed based on flat scotopic and photopic ERG, So ocular surgery was done and rod-shape IOFB with approximate diameter of 4 mm was removed from supranasal quadrant of angle. One and two month after operation, there was no significant change in slit lamp examination (SLE), but VA improved from 20/100 to 20/60 at month one and 20/20 at month 2. Photopic and scotopic ERG returned to normal state at month 2 and completely became similar to the right eye.
Conclusion:
In conclusion it is important to rule out IOFB, especially in penetrating ocular trauma. Also based on the case and other similar study, it can be said that ERG is a good method for diagnosis of ocular siderosis and follow up of its recovery process after removing of IOFB.
