Purpose:
|
TO evaluate the effect of intravenous erythropoetin on improvement of visual function in patients with non arteritic AION
|
|
Methods:
|
In a case series28 eyes of 28patients with AION underwent 20,000 IU intravenous EPO injections daily for 3 days BCVA and visual field were compared before, 1, and 3 months after injections.
|
|
Results:
|
The mean BCVA improved from a baseline of1.25± 0.3 to0.99± 0.6 and 0.95± 0.5 log MAR at months 1 and 3, (P =0.1,P=0.03)respectively. Visual field improved in 6 patients.
|
|
Conclusion:
|
EPO may be effective in improvement of visual function of patients with AION.
