Purpose:
To evaluate efficacy of PRP eye drops comparing ASED 20% eye drops in treatment of resistant corneal epithelial disorders.
Methods:
35 eyes with corneal epithelial disorders whom resistant to conventional treatments were enrolled in the study. Epithelial lesions were divided into 3 groups as: “ Persistent epithelial defect”, “Punctate epithelial erosions” and “ Filamentary keratopathy”. In each group, patients randomly enrolled in one of the treatment groups. 19 eyes have been treated by PRP and 16 eyes by ASED 20%.
Results:
In PRP group 9 patients had complete healing, 6 ones had partial healing and 2 others failed to treat. In ASED group, 6 patients healed completely and 10 patients had partial treatment. There wasn’t significant difference in healing response between two groups. In PED group, “Healing Ratio” which was defined as “mean initial epithelial defect area divided by healing time” was compared between two groups. PRP group had a significant better healing ratio than ASED group.
Conclusion:
Autologous serum and Platelet rich plasma eye drops, both could be effective in treating resistant corneal epithelial disorders. This study showed no significant difference between these two groups.
