Purpose:
: Despite Inferior oblique over action (IOOA) is a common ocular motility disorder; it’s not clear which of the weakening procedure do the best to correct it yet. Therefore we compare of the weakening effect of IO myectomy and anterior transposition on patient with IOOA.
Methods:
This clinical trial study was conducted on 56 patients with IOOA, (28 patients in myectomy group and 28 patients in anterior transposition group). IOOA grads, DVD, vertical and horizontal deviation were compared before and after surgery between two groups. Satisfactory result was defined as grad 0 and 1 of IOOA.
Results:
In this study 99 eyes of 56 patients with mean age of 5.9±6.5 years were included (47 eyes in MX group and 52 eyes in AT group). Preoperative IOOA grades were similar in two groups and both surgical procedures were effective for correcting IOOA and satisfactory results were similar in both groups: 67.3 % and 61.7 % in AT and MX group respectively (P=0.56). There were also no statistically significant difference between groups regarding to DVD correction.
Conclusion:
MX and AT transposition both are effective in correction of IOOA with similar satisfactory results.
