Purpose:
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of local tranexamic acid on reducing of intra and post external dacryocystorhinostomy hemorrhage.
Methods:
Total of 126 patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction, who were scheduled for external DCR, enrolled in a randomized double-blind clinical trial. Patients randomly were divided into two groups of tranexamic acid (n=63) and placebo(n=63). 3.5 ml Bupivacaine 0.5% + 4 ml Lidocaine 2% + 0.1 ml Adrenalin 1/100000 was injected in group T 2.5 ml tranexamic acid 10% +and in group P 2.5 ml normal saline was added to this soloution. The volume of suctioned blood during surgery and the amount of bleeding after surgey were compared between two groups.
Results:
Mean age of patients was 63.25±14.06 years. The intra-operative bleeding volume was significantly less in tranexamic acid group (14.76 ± 16.85,19.26± 25.45).
the amount of bleeding after surgery has no significant difference between two groups .
Conclusion:
The use of local tranexamic acid in Ex-DCR could decrease intra-operative hemorrhage .
