Purpose:
To review the recorded data of infectious keratitis cases after collagen cross linking (CCL) during a three year period.
Methods:
The medical records of post-CCL patients (2749 eyes) were searched for cases of infectious keratitis.
Results:
Infectious keratitis was diagnosed in 13 eyes from 13 patients. Most of the cases diagnosed between 4th and 14th day (84%). Cultures were positive in 6 of 13. The most frequent organism was Staphylococcus (5 cases). The 6 month postoperative spectacle corrected visual acuity was same or better than preoperative corrected visual acuity in 4 cases.
Conclusion:
Infectious keratitis is a rare but potentially vision threatening complication of CCL. It is more prevalent in CCL compared to refractive laser surgery. Visual outcome is acceptable after treatment in most cases.
