Purpose:
To report outcomes of postoperative inflammation after phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.
Methods:
In this retrospective study, we reported the incidence of post operative significant uveitis and also endophthalmitis among 825 patients implanted with different types of phakic IOL ( Artisan IOL, Artiflex IOL and Implantable Collamer Lens( ICL).
Results:
In ICL group, the only significant inflammation was associated with pupillary block, there was no case of endophthalmitis, In artiflex group , there were five cases of significant post operative fibrinous reaction ( comprising one endophthalmitis case) among those patients, compared to artisan IOL with two cases of endophthalmitis and seven cases of sterile severe post operative fibrinous reaction. There was no significant difference between endophthalmitis and uveitis in artisan and artiflex group.(P>0.05)
Conclusion:
Both artisan and artiflex phakic IOL could result in severe fibrinous reaction, the ophthalmologists should take care about both endophthalmitis and sterile uveitis after phakic IOL implantation; pupillary block could be the culprit of fibrinous reaction after ICL implantation.
