Purpose:

To evaluate depth and outcomes of MyoRing implantation using two methods including Pocketmaker and Mechanical.

Methods:

This retrospective study includes 39 eyes of 38 keratoconus patients with mean age of 29.1+/-9.8 years that had undergone MyoRing implantation. The MyoRing implant was inserted into the corneal tunnels which were made mechanically in 18 eyes (Mechanical group) or with Pocketmaker microkeratome in 21 eyes (PocketMaker group). Mean follow up time was 7.51 monthes with pre-operative and post-operative ophthalmic examination including uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and keratometry readings. AS-OCT (Casisa, SS-1000, Tomey, Nagoya,Japan) Imaging was used to measure MyoRing insertion depth, exactly.

Results:

Pre-operative and post-operative UCVA(logMAR) change for PocketMaker group and Mechanical group are respectively 0.68+/-0.5 and 0.82+/-0.33, BCVA change are respectively 0.24+/-0.25 and 0.24+/-0.28 and mean keratometry(Km) change are respectively 4.83+/-5.58 and 6.58+/-2.9.UCVA change(p=0.325),BCVA change(p=0.839) and Km change(p=0.191) showed that there was no statistically significant difference between both groups for any parameter.Depth measurements achieved from AS-OCT images showed that there was no statistically significant difference in insertion depth between two methods of MyoRing implantation(p=0.096).

Conclusion:

Two methods of Myoring implantation (PocketMaker and Mechanical) with same insertion depth and visual acuity can be used interchangeably for MyoRing implantation.
