Purpose:
To evaluate opening, closing, and reopening pressure changes in silicone Ahmed Glaucoma Valve after 1 month tube ligation.
Methods:
Three Ahmed Glaucoma Valves (2 FP7 and 1 FP8) were used in this study. After priming the AGV, we measured the opening pressure, closing pressure, and re-opening pressure using the active infusion pump of a phaco machine and then did complete tube ligation with nylon 4-0. These 3 shunts were then placed in separate normal saline container for 1 month and then the opening and closing and re-opening pressure were reevaluated.
Results:
Opening, closing, and reopening pressures were 13, 4 and 6 mm Hg, in shunt A (FP7), 27, 13and 24mm Hg, in shunt B (FP8), and 26, 8 and 20 mm Hg, in shunt C (FP7), respectively before ligation. After ligation, theses pressures were 12, 5 and 7 mm Hg, in shunt A, 12, 6 and 9 mm Hg, in shunt B, and 26, 3 and 6 mm Hg, in shunt C, respectively.
Conclusion:
There was no significant increase in opening, closing, or re-opening pressures after 1 month tube ligation (sign of restriction) in this study.
