Purpose:
our aim is to investigate the astigmatic power, axis and refractive changes after strabismus surgery using power vector analysis according topography
Methods:
we prospectively recruited 51 patients (93 eyes) referred for strabismus surgery. Epidemiologic data such as age, sex and clinical data like cycloplegic refraction, amount of deviation, and type of surgery & muscle surgery extracted from files. Topography, Spherical equivalent (SE), JO( vertical & horizontal astigmatism) and J45 (oblique astigmatism) using power vectors were calculated according the topography. Postoperatively all measurements repeated at 1, 3 and 6 months & compared with preoperative data.
Results:
51 patient were recruited into study. In all groups, JO showed significant changes at the 6 month after surgery (P=0.0001).J45 did not change significantly postoperatively in all groups (p>0.05). Postoperatively, average K reading increased significantly in all groups(p<0.05). There was significant difference in the magnitude of changes in SE one and three month following surgery (P=0.0001).There were no significant difference between sex groups in SE and JO changes (P>0.05)
Conclusion:
strabismus surgery tends to induce a statistically significant change in with the rule astigmatism and myopic shift in SE .This astigmatism change seems to remain within the 6 months following surgery.
