Purpose:
The aim of this study was to determine sensitivity and specificity of the Bellin/Ambrósio Display (BAD) Enhanced Ectasia Screening II according to Orbscan and topography indexes.
Methods:
Topography, Orbscan, Pentacam and BAD indices were compared in myopic photorefractive keratectomy candidates. The subjects were evaluated in 4 groups: 1) All topographic, Orbscan and BAD indices were in normal range, 2) at least one index in all 3 modalities was abnormal, 3) Normal topographic and Orbscan indices with at least one abnormal BAD index and 4) Normal BAD indices and at least one abnormal topographic or Orbscan index. The outcome measure was the correlation between BAD indices and the other 2 imaging modalities.
Results:
One thousand eyes of 500 individuals were enrolled. In 843 eyes (78.5%) which had normal topographic and Orbscan indices, BAD indices were also normal. In 157 eyes (80%) which had abnormal topographic and Orbscan indices BAD indices were also abnormal. Dt (index of thinnest location) was the only BAD index which showed correlation with its corresponding Orbscan index (TP).
Conclusion:
BAD indices have acceptable correlation with topography and Orbscan; however, they should be interpreted in accompanying with other modalities for a reliable judgment.
